Space Art Series Inspitration / by Vincent Zuniaga

"We are made of star stuff." -Carl Sagan and “The Universe is alive within us” -Neil deGrasse Tyson are the inspiration for my Space Art

The Art of Cosmic Connection

My Digital Bodypainting series isn't just about creating beautiful imagery—it's about making visible the invisible threads that connect us to the universe. Each piece begins with a photograph of a model's back, which becomes my canvas. But this isn't arbitrary. The human back, with its gentle curves and elegant lines, mirrors the sweeping arcs of galaxies and the flowing ribbons of nebulae.

When I paint swirling galaxies and vibrant nebulae that follow the natural contours of the body, I'm not imposing the universe onto human form—I'm revealing what's already there. The way starlight bends along the spine, how cosmic dust settles in the valleys of shoulder blades, how stellar winds seem to flow with the body's natural lines—these aren't coincidences. They're reminders that we are not separate from the cosmos; we are expressions of it.

From the moment I begin selecting a model and considering poses, I'm thinking about how to best embody this truth. Every decision—the angle of the photograph, the colors of the nebula, the flow of cosmic elements—is made with intention.

The choice to use real models as canvases rather than creating entirely digital figures is deliberate and essential. It grounds the work in reality. These aren't fantasy illustrations; they're visual meditations on what we actually are: living, breathing collections of ancient stardust, temporarily arranged in human form.

The Creative Journey

Model Selection & Photography: I look for poses that naturally suggest cosmic movements—an arched back that echoes the curve of a spiral galaxy, or shoulders that rise like stellar mountains.

  1. Digital Painting: Using digital tools, I hand-paint each cosmic element, allowing the nebulae and galaxies to flow organically with the body's topography. The painting follows the body's lead, not the other way around.

  2. Color & Light: I choose colors that speak to both the warmth of human life and the ethereal beauty of space—deep purples of distant nebulae, warm oranges of stellar nurseries, cool blues of cosmic ice.
